Biography

Eva Melstrom received her PhD from UCLA in 2021 and afterward served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Macalester College (Saint Paul, MN) for the 2022-2023 academic year. As a psychological and medical anthropologist, she specializes in the study of individual experiences of mental and emotional unwellness precipitated by participation in global migration processes. Her fieldwork takes place in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian women recently returned from domestic labor employment in the Arab Gulf.

Her research combines theories from feminist philosophy, phenomenology, care ethics, theories of self and embodiment, and postcolonial studies.
